Miami artist Xavier Cortada's next exhibit, Welcome Medusa, consists of paintings based on characters from Greek Mythology (i.e.: Icarus, Atlas, Dionysus). The series was inspired by a recent trip to Europe, where Cortada witnessed the classic and the contemporary accommodate one another.

Xavier Cortada's Welcome Medusa exhibit runs at Wirtz Gallery through January 29, 1999 and is presented by NIKETOWN Miami. Cortada was commissioned by NIKETOWN to create two 24-foot tall glass-mosaic murals for the exterior walls of their new building at the Shops at Sunset Place in South Miami. The NIKETOWN murals will be unveiled on January 6th. For more information, please contact Anneli Shearer, Nike's Public Relations Manager, at 212-367-4400.

The exhibit opens at the Wirtz Gallery (the Art Gallery of the First National Bank of South Miami) at 5750 Sunset Drive on Friday, January 8th, 1999, from 6 to 9 p.m. For more information about the exhibit contact the artist at 305-858-1323.

A virtual exhibit will also be available on this website on opening night.
